How to create a title block

Written by Ashok P

Cloud includes "Title Block" functionality that lets you add a dedicated block next to drawings. In the title block, you can add company, drawing, and customer details as specific fields. Adding title blocks to drawings helps you identify them easily.

You can create two types of title blocks:

  • Global: A "Global" title block is available for use by all Cloud users if the user who created it shares it. You can create a "Global" title block under "Settings > Drawing > Title Blocks."

  • Quote-Specific: A "Quote-Specific" title block is one that you create under a drawing in a quote. This title block is available only for drawings in the quote.

Once created, you can choose a specific title block (global or quote-specific) for a drawing and download the drawing PDF with the block.

Title Blocks interface

You can access the interface to create title blocks in three places:

#1 Under Settings

Go to "Settings > Drawing > Title Blocks." This is the interface to create and manage global title blocks.

  • The options to create a new title block and edit an existing one are available in the top-right corner.

  • All title blocks you have created are listed in the left pane, with the block name, creator, and last modified date.

Once you create a new title block, you see its Edit view, the Title Block Editor. You can see the following in Title Block Editor.

  • The options to configure the title block appear in a pane on the left.

  • The toolbar for adding fields to the title block appears at the bottom.

  • The fields appear next to the drawing layout.

  • The left pane contains options to configure the fields added to a title block.

  • The options to duplicate, download, and delete the title block are available in the top-right corner.

#2 In Drawing Manager

When in Drawing Manager, you can access the Title Blocks interface. To access it, click the "Title Blocks" icon at the top.

Cloud displays a modal with all shared global title blocks and quote-specific blocks. You can create new blocks and edit existing ones.

Check out this article for more details.

#3 In a drawing

You can access the Title Blocks interface to create and edit title blocks within a drawing.

Check out this article for more details.

Create a title block

You can create as many title blocks as you need. Once created, you can apply any of them to a drawing.

The steps to create a global or quote-specific title block are identical. This article describes the steps to create a global title block.

To create a title block:

1/ Go to "Settings > Drawing > Title Blocks" in the left navigation menu.

Cloud displays a sample title block and the title blocks you've created in the left pane.

2/ Click "New" in the top-right corner.

You can see "Title Block Editor," the interface for creating and editing title blocks.

3/ In the "Title Block Name" text box, add a name for the title block.

Configure the title block

4/ Configure the title block in the left pane.

Formatting

a/ Set up the formatting options in the Formatting section.

Formatting options let you define the drawing's final print layout when you apply the title block.

The following are the formatting options for a title block.

Option

Description

Paper size

Select from a variety of ISO, ANSI, and ARCH paper sizes for printing the drawing

Orientation

Select the orientation of the drawing's print layout: Portrait or Landscape.

Placement

Select where you want to place the title block: on the right or at the bottom.

Select different paper sizes, orientation, and placement options to preview the drawing with the title block applied.

Grid

b/ Set up the grid options in the Grid section.

Grid options let you set the title block's overall size and the number of cells. A "Cell" is the smallest unit of a title block where you can place a data field, such as an image or text.

The following are the grid options for a title block.

Option

Description

Width

The width of the title block in millimeters (mm)

Height

The height of the title block in millimeters (mm)

Rows

The number of rows in the title block grid

Columns

The number of columns in the title block grid

For example, with 5 rows and 6 columns, you have 30 cells to place data fields in the title block.

Zones

c/ Set up the zone options in the Zones section.

Zone options let you divide the drawing (including the title block) into distinct, smaller areas horizontally and vertically. With zones added to a drawing, reviewers can refer to specific areas for feedback and those that need the designer's attention.

The following are the zone options for a title block.

Option

Description

None

Selecting this does not show zone markers on the drawing

Horizontal

The number of horizontal markers and the convention: Letters (ABC...) or Numbers (123...).

Vertical

The number of vertical markers and the convention: Letters (ABC...) or Numbers (123...).

For example, with 6 horizontal markers and 7 vertical markers, the diagram's print layout has 42 zones.
