The conventional way to build plan view drawings is to use the work site's floor plan as the underlay. However, if you do not have a floor plan handy and still want to show the design to the customer visually, you can use the "Rectangle Location" feature to draw locations that closely resemble the site layout.
You need to be aware of the following when using the Rectangular Location feature:
Locations you draw may not be as dimensionally accurate as the floor plan. So, you cannot use the "Wirepath" feature effectively to estimate the wire and cable length.
While you can enable "Product Coverage" to show the coverage area for products placed in locations, the coverage shown may not be accurate because the locations are not dimensionally accurate.
Add locations
You can add the following types of locations: Rectangle and Polygon.
There are two ways to add locations.
#1 From the Locations Group view
Use this approach to extend the quote from the Quoting view to the Drawings view.
To add a location:
1/ Open the drawing in Drawing Manager.
2/ Open the "View By" panel to the left of the drawing.
Under the "Locations" grouping, you will see all work site locations.
3/ Hover over a location in the panel to see a dotted square with a plus sign.
4/ Click the dotted square, move the cursor in the drawing, and draw the location.
The location you drew is automatically assigned the location name.
5/ Add locations, either attached or detached from each other, as needed.
There is no functional impact on whether the locations are attached or detached.
#2 From the toolbar
Use this approach when you start building the quote by creating the locations first, then adding items from the Item Search bar.
To add a location:
1/Click the "Locations" icon on the toolbar.
2/ Click a spot in the drawing and add the location.
3/ In the modal, link it to a location in the project or create a new one, then click "Save."
In the following example, we added one location from the Group view and another from the toolbar.

Add location details | Select the location and click "Location details" in the left panel. |
Change border color | Select the location, click "A" in the contextual menu, and select the new color from the palette. |
Lock position | Select the location and click the "Lock" icon in the contextual menu. |
Hide name | Select the location and click the "T" icon in the contextual menu. |
Movie name | Select the location name and drag it anywhere within or outside the location. |
Move location | Select the location and drag and drop it to the desired position. |
Zoom to location | Select the location and click "Zoom to location" in the left panel. |
Delete location | Select the location and click the "Delete" icon in the contextual menu. |
