Cloud has a "Warranty Management" feature that lets you apply a warranty to asset-tracked inventory items. While this approach is best for finalizing asset warranties, you can define a default warranty with basic details at the asset-tracked item subcategory level. This way, all asset-tracked items associated with the relevant category or subcategory inherit the default warranty.

Here are a few things to know about how asset-tracked items inherit the default warranty.

  • Products associated with a category inherit the default warranty you define for that category.

  • Products associated with a subcategory within a category inherit the default warranty you define for that subcategory.

  • Products associated with a subcategory do not inherit the default warranty from the parent category if you have not defined the default warranty for the subcategory.

For example, if you associate a camera with the "Cameras" subcategory in the "Surveillance" parent category and do not define a default warranty for the Cameras subcategory, the camera does not inherit the default warranty defined for the Surveillance category.

To apply warranty to a product category or subcategory:

1/ Go to "Settings > Catalog > Categories" in the left navigation menu.

2/ Click the 3-dot menu of a category or subcategory and click "Edit."

3/ In the modal, click the "Inventory Settings" tab.

Here, you can set the default warranty for the category or subcategory, and associated asset-tracked items inherit these defaults automatically.

For instructions on defining a warranty layer, see this article. Some warranty fields are only available under Inventory Management on a per-asset basis.

4/ Click "Add layer" to add another layer of warranty. For example, a first layer of "Manufacturer" warranty and a second layer of "Extended" warranty.

5/ Once you have added the warranty, click "Save."

Once you define the default warranty for the category or subcategory, Cloud automatically makes it available under the Product Settings tab on an asset-tracked item.
