Discounts are a great way to tell customers you value their business and are willing to cut down on your margins. On the sales side, discounts help salespeople reach their targets quickly. You can also use discounts to promote new products or clear stock to make way for newer product models.
On Cloud, you can apply discounts to individual products, packages, alternate sets, and allowances. Discounts on packages, alternate sets, and allowances are applied to their total value.
Another way to add a discount for a project is by applying a "Price Adjustment" in the quote.
Check out this article for more details about applying adjustments.
Types of discounts
Broadly, discounts can be specified either as a percentage of the item value or a fixed amount. For example, a 10% discount or a $50 discount on a $500 Item. Furthermore, discounts can be of two types:
#1 Single Value discount
The "Single Value" discount is a fixed amount or percentage discount on the item. For example, a Stock Clearance discount of $100.
#2 Range discount
The "Range" discount is a discount with an allowed range of amounts or percentages.
For example, a Loyalty Discount can be offered between 5% and 10% of the item value.
Salespeople can apply any value within the range, including the lower and upper values, when they apply the range discount to an item. This way, you can let salespeople decide the discount value based on customer, project value, or the need to meet sales targets.
Add discounts
When you start using Cloud, there will be no discounts set up for you. You can add and manage discounts in the Quote Details view.
Here is the screenshot of how the Discount dropdown in the item's side panel will look without any discounts.
1/ Click "Add one now," and you will see a modal to add a name and definition for the discount.
2/ Add a catchy name for the discount, select whether this is a single value or range discount, percentage-based or fixed price, and specify the discount details.
3/ Select "Save for future quotes" if you want to see this in the Discount dropdown in future quotes. Otherwise, this discount can be used only in the current quote.
4/ Click "Create."
Permission for adding discounts
By default, only users in the built-in "Administrator" user group can create and manage discounts. If you want other users to create and manage discounts, you can turn ON this permission for their user groups under Settings.
