With the wide variety of products on the market, it is only possible to track down some of them. The D-Tools Cloud data team is working around the clock to get these products from various brands into the D-Tools library, so you do not have to worry too much about building your product catalog on D-Tools Cloud.
In addition to downloading products from the D-Tools Library to the Cloud catalog, you have the option to use the Import Products functionality to add your own products to the Cloud catalog. This functionality lets you import product details such as brand, model, cost, price, category, and system via a CSV or Excel file.
The CSV or Excel file you want to upload should be formatted properly so that Cloud can successfully import the product details.
Check out this article for tips on formatting the file before you upload it.
To import products, go to "Catalog > Products" in the left navigation menu and click "Import/Export" in the top-right corner. In the modal, click "Import products" and "Next."

Here are the 5 steps to complete the Import products workflow.
#1 Upload the file
In this step of the import, upload or drag and drop the file into the modal. Ensure that your file meets the guidelines described in the modal.
If you're reading up on importing products to Cloud, we recommend downloading the sample import file to understand what product fields you can upload to Cloud and populate this file with the product details.
#2 Map Headers
D-Tools Cloud will automatically map the headers of the columns it can identify to the product fields in the catalog.
For the column headers that can't be identified, you will need to help map these columns to the product fields. This is when you have a different name in the file. For example, the product field in Cloud is Part Number, but the relevant field in the file is Model Number.
To map a column to the product field, find the column you want to match and click the "Select Column" button. You can then search for the Cloud product field to which you want to map it.
Any unmapped fields will not be imported with the product.
#3 Map Brands
After you have mapped the headers, Cloud will do a lookup on the brands in the file. In the modal, "Brand" is the brand name in the file, and "Matched Brand" is the brand name that exists in the Cloud catalog.
Once the lookup is complete, you will notice the following:
If the brand name in the file is close to a brand name in the catalog, Cloud will suggest the correct brand name. You can remove the match or select a different brand name.
If the brand name does not exist in the catalog, Cloud will ask you to select a brand from the catalog. Otherwise, Cloud will create a new brand name in the catalog.
If the brand name is identical to a brand name in the catalog, you don't need to do anything.
#4 Map Categories
Regardless of if you have a categories column in your file, Cloud will ask you to match up categories. This is because categories are so important within D-Tools Cloud. There are labor rules, accessories, price rules, and more tied to each category. You can always leave all as uncategorized, but you will miss out on all this great functionality.
#5 Review
Finally, you will be asked to review the file you are about to import. From here, you will see the imported product, the mapped product (if there is one), and the category.
While you can just click the import button, it is recommended that you take the time to check all the products and categories so you can have the cleanest catalog.
Remember, putting the work in now will prevent you from dealing with discrepancies and delays when building quotes.
