How to learn from the Opportunities that got away

Let's face it: no one wins every opportunity. Though it can be tough to watch projects slip away, missed opportunities can still provide inputs to strengthen processes in your company and improve your close ratio.

Capturing the "Lost" reason

When an opportunity is lost, Cloud allows you to capture why it was lost. Cloud will show some common reasons, and the user who marks the opportunity as "Lost" will be prompted to select one of the reasons. The user can optionally include a brief description to provide more context.

Customizing "Lost" reasons

When your Cloud account is created, it is populated with some of the most common lost reasons. You can customize this list of reasons in "Settings > Opportunity > Opportunity Lost Reasons."

Analyzing lost opportunities

Over time, when you want to analyze why you're losing opportunities, you can always go to the Sales Report and see the "Lost Opportunities" bar chart.

The chart will show a breakdown of lost reasons, the number of opportunities lost, and the total business lost for those reasons.
