You can mark an account as tax-exempt to exempt all products and labor in quotes and service plans in the opportunities associated with the account from taxes. In the quotes associated with tax-exempt accounts, you can apply taxes on selected products or labor items if needed.
When an account is marked as tax-exempt, change orders in projects resulting from opportunities and service calls relevant to the service plans are also tax-exempt. You can enable taxes on such change orders and service calls if needed.
Enable the Tax-Exempt functionality
The Tax-Exempt functionality is enabled by default on Cloud.
You can disable the Tax-Exempt functionality under "Settings > CRM." You cannot disable the functionality if an account, quote, change order, or service call is set to be tax-exempt. You will need to set the tax-exempt status of all accounts to OFF to disable the functionality.
Mark an account as tax-exempt
To be able to mark accounts as tax-exempt, you will need to be part of the built-in Administrator user group or a group that has been granted the "Manage tax-exempt setting" permission.
To mark an account as tax-exempt:
1/ Go to "Accounts" in the left navigation menu, click the 3-dot menu of the account, and click "Mark as tax-exempt."
2/ Select the "I understand this account.." check box and click "Enable."
You will see a blue "Tax-Exempt" label next to the account name that is marked as tax-exempt.
If you want to mark multiple accounts as tax-exempt, select them, click the "Action on X selected" dropdown in the top-right, click "Change tax exempt status," and then click "Mark as tax exempt."
When merging two accounts, one that is tax-exempt and the other that is not, Cloud will always retain the tax-exempt setting of the primary account.
